Book an Tour "From Monet to Picasso: Modernist Art in the Albertina"

The Albertina collection is probably the best place in Vienna to get acquainted with masterpieces by Monet, Degas, Kandinsky, Chagall, Miro, and Modigliani. However, it is more than just that. The permanent The Albertina exhibition is a great opportunity to gain insight into the exciting topics that were brought up for the first time by the modernist and avant-garde art.

It’s true that hardly any comments are needed to simply enjoy Monet’s Water Lilies or Miró’s Birds. These paintings were designed to give a certain impression directly to the viewer, which is what makes them different from the art of previous eras. These painters neither illustrate moral preaching nor offer guidelines for reaching heaven. If you wish to experience aesthetic pleasure and find out why these canvases are important and noteworthy, this art tour is for you.

While viewing the paintings by Monet, Signac, Larionov, and Kirchner, we won’t dwell much on their stylistics, but rather try to understand the differences between the works of impressionists and expressionists, whether there is any connection between the canvases by classical artists and modern-day installations, and what makes the symbolic value and the market price of an artwork.

Starting with Monet’s Rose Garden, we will cover the whole exhibition until Picasso’s Mediterranean Landscape, while discussing the issues that actually help each viewer find their own approach to art.
