Hofburg from inside. Museum treasures of the palace complex

Located in the heart of Vienna, the Hofburg is one of the most famous royal residences in the world. The Hofburg was home to the Austrian royal family and their court from the 13th century until the end of the monarchy in 1918. While both the Imperial Ballroom and the Library remain in use today, most of the Habsburg residing spaces were turned into public museums, and on this tour of the Hofburg Museums we will see the main treasures of these diverse collections.

Itinerary:

In the Imperial Treasury, located in the medieval part of the palace complex, we will see imperial crowns and discover the enduring significance of imperial symbols of power.

The World Museum – recently given this less colonial name – is a collection of Habsburg “souvenirs” from non-European countries. Some of them are the only witnesses of the culture of vanished civilizations.

The Collection of musical instruments and the collection of Armor shed light on activities such as hunting, jousting and music, which for centuries were reserved for the upper aristocracy.

At the Ephesus Museum, we will marvel at the sculptures that once adorned the ancient Greek city of Ephesus.

And in the Grand Hall of the Austrian National Library, we will have the opportunity to see for ourselves the value that has been placed on the preservation and dissemination of knowledge since the Age of Enlightenment.
